Yang Huang signs her novel Living Treasures. The time period is after Mao died and set during the reforms of Deng which deeply affected people's lives such as the one-child policy and the military repression of the student and worker protests around Tiananmen. It is the story of a woman finding her footing within a changing socialist country and the universal story of women choosing their path, love, and control of life and body.
